What a beautiful city. I'm truly enjoying my time in Portugal!

I filmed the driving portion of this video on the Gimbal Osmo.

This is a great device to steady your filmmaking as you are moving around.

Before closing, I pray that everyone affected by the earthquakes and hurricanes are safe and comforted during this very tumultuous season. It seems that every week there is new tragedy on a global scale. My hope is that everyone affected by these natural disasters is able to find safety, comfort and peace.

Thank you for joining me today and I will see you on Monday!

Updated Bare Minerals Makeup Review

It has been a long time since I've posted a Bare Minerals Review. My last review was several years ago and shared their powder mineral makeup. I was nearly out of foundation and also was in need of a few other makeup items, so I took advantage of a mail coupon I received and decided to see what was new at Bare Minerals.

Today's review shares the new products I bought, including their liquid foundation and cream concealer. I've been wearing these for weeks now and have only brought this makeup with me to Europe to simplify my makeup routine. I love them! I have listed all of the makeup used below. The pictures themselves are links so if you'd like to check out the makeup, click on the photos. I hope you enjoy today's video!

Bare Minerals Smart Combination smoothing lightweight emulsion

Bare Pro performance wear liquid foundation in sandstone spf 20

Bare Minerals concealer in medium 2

Bare Minerals blush in thistle

Bare Minerals Mineral Veil (powder)

Bare Minerals Lasting Line eyeliner in endless orchid

Luxe Performance foundation brush

Flawless Face brush (I use this with the mineral veil)

Max Coverage Concealer brush

Brow master brush

Also used in the video: Bare Minerals brow powder in dark blonde, Urban Decay primer potion, Becca Ombre Rouge eyeshadow palette, Clinique 'Chubby Stick' Moisturizing Lip Color Fuller Fig

Here is a great testimonial on the eCourse from LaTonya G, who writes, "This course was great Jennifer. Thank you for your insight on something that has become a bit of a burden for me--clothes. I have tons of clothes, but tend to wear the same few pieces often. This course has given me clarity on perhaps why I keep shopping (boredom) for things I don't need nor even wear."

Comment of the Week
Last week's Teatime with Jennifer Let's Talk About Adulting was a polarizing video! One thing is for sure, it has struck a nerve. I love that Paula caught on to what I think is the most important part of the video... that we should do our adult responsibilities with a happy heart. Here's her comment:

Paula S. writes: You nailed it with the comment about doing your work with a happy heart! We should do our best to conduct ourselves with a happy heart and gratitude. I'm a single Baby Boomer, if I don't do it, it doesn't get done in my home. And I insist on a clean, tidy home. Life is about choices and responsibilities. No whining :)

Hi Paula, I admire your resolve. When you learn the secret to do things with a happy heart, life becomes much sweeter!

Heather C. writes:
Jennifer,
In our homeschool, we learn Latin. This is a task scorned by many who see Latin as obsolete or "dead". Besides the argument that Latin remains the language of science and law, Latin also has value as we examine our own language and culture. I agree with your opening statement, that we don't want to "adult" and instead want to be constantly entertained and comfortable. I was convicted of this desire when I heard a dissection of the Latin roots of the word "amuse". The Latin prefix 'a -' means 'not'. The root 'muse ' means 'to think'. As we seek to be entertained every moment we are literally ceasing to think. As Neil Postman puts it in his book 'Amusing Ourselves to Death', by choosing to not think, we are choosing to not take part in our lives, our families, and our society. Thus we are the most depressed and anxious generation in the history of man, despite being the most comfortable and wealthiest, and are causing the disintegration of our society as a whole, the family unit, and ourselves as individuals.
Thank you for providing not just mindless amusement but also thought and discussion inducing discourse.
-HLC

Hi Heather, I'm actually reading Postman's book right now. Your comment was so spot-on. Many people feel defensive about the hours they spend each day on entertainment and the pursuit of being "a-mused". It was hard for me to analyze this in myself, but when I did, I was finally able to make dramatic changes in this area of my life.

Today, I would love to know what mineral makeup you love, if any. Do you have a fall makeup routine? What are your thoughts on the comments of the week? Let me know and your comment could be chosen as the comment of the week. See you on Thursday!

Let's Talk About Adulting | Teatime with Jennifer

While walking through Home Goods this summer, I came across this canvas print that says "I Can't Adult Today".

While I think that this canvas is meant to be a light-hearted joke, I couldn't help but think that many people today actually do have a hard time tending to adult responsibilities. This generation has turned the word adult into a verb: adulting. And they sure are having a hard time doing it! What does this mean for our future and for our children's generation? I hope you join me for today's Teatime with Jennifer video, as we sip a cup of tea and wonder at the marvel of adulting.

Mentioned in today's video:
Blimey Cow No, You are Not Adulting
Gotta Love Millennials video
This is how college students used to dress via Town and Country.

Christina Writes, "Your fall and winter clothes are so beautiful and chic! I just ordered my last two core items and one extra which I think should do it! There was one dress I wanted but my size is now gone but I'm excited about my order and how freeing it feels to be done! Two questions... I have a beautiful black maxi dress that I love with sandals but feel lost on how to transition it to cool weather. What type of boots will you wear with your maxi? I'm wondering if ankle boots will look ok? I feel like my riding boots will be too bulky under it. Also, my biggest trouble with completing a 10 item wardrobe is quickly finding things that I like the fit of. I order and return so much and shopping in a store would be nice but I'm a mom of almost 8 so just don't want to spend free time in a mall. Do you always find what you like right away? I'm sick of the ongoing orders and returns."

Hi Christina, Thank you! With a maxi dress, you can definitely wear ankle boots or if it's still warm weather, ballet flats. Riding boots might be too bulky under it. You won't know until you try. I also understand your plight with not wanting to spend a long time on shopping. I am in the same boat right now. This year I needed to quickly order my wardrobe before my trip, which is why I ordered my clothes online, and I'm very happy with all of my choices. As you continue the ten-item wardrobe, you become really good at knowing what will work for you and what won't. Please keep us updated!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I pray everyone affected by the hurricanes are on the road to recovery. I will see you on Monday. Until then...

NEW Closet Tour + Fall Ten-Item Wardrobe Sneak Peek

Hello Daily Connoisseurs,

I hope you are well and that everyone in the path of Hurricane Irma is safe. What a perilous few weeks this has been!

Because of my travel schedule, I have not had a chance to film my typical ten-item wardrobe fashion show video. I didn't want to leave you hanging, however, so in today's video I'm showing you the closet in our new home and you get to see both new and old pieces for my fall/ winter wardrobe. All of the new items are from zulily.

Those of you who have purchased my ten-item wardrobe eCourse have already seen this video, which was included in the bonus section. Thank you to everyone who has taken the course! The comments have been enabled and there is a wonderful community of ten-item wardrobe devotees there with progress updates, Q&As and discussions. I love it!

Zulily is a really great website that has highly discounted designer clothing. They have new items on sale every day and the items are only there for a limited period of time. While zulily is a wonderful resource for shopping, it can also become addictive. You will have the urge to check it out every day to see what is new! But even though the deals are great and everything looks enticing, try to keep the ten-item wardrobe mindset intact and not over-shop.

Another thing to note about zulily: they do not accept returns. This is how they keep their costs down. Although their website does say to call them if your purchase doesn't work for you and they will come up with a solution.

I will try to shoot a fashion show video at some point, perhaps in Europe, but until then, I hope you enjoy today's video.

Check out my new eCourse on the ten-item wardrobe. With over an hour of never-before-seen video instruction, notes and quizzes, you will be on-track to creating your own ten-item wardrobe. For those of you who already do the ten-item wardrobe, this course will keep you focused and provide further inspiration. It's only $5. Enjoy!

Here's what people are saying about the eCourse:

Sheri S writes, "I totally enjoyed viewing the eCourse!! I'm planning to re-watch it today and get started working on my own closet. I appreciate you compiling these videos and the fact that you made it so affordable to us to participate!! Best wishes on your travels! God bless you all!"

Mejana G writes, "This was such an enjoyable course! Last year I've set a life goal to simplify my life and I came across your YouTube channel. So I've been trying to apply the 10 item wardrobe for two seasons now since reading your books and watching the TED X talk. But this course gave me the direction I needed to to transition from season to season. I was just storing the clothes away without assessing them first. I'm really motivated to hone in my style now and continue in this journey. Thank you Jennifer for all the hard work, fine example & encouragement."

Sheridan J writes, "I am in the process of switching out my 10-item wardrobe for the new season and took this course as a refresher. I've been following Jennifer's advice for well over a year now and I must say that the 10-item wardrobe concept has been a Godsend! Though I may have to buy an item or two each season, once my 10-items and extras are in place, I have a wardrobe comprising only clothes that I enjoy. I always have something to wear. Thank you for the inspiration!"

Thank you, ladies, for your wonderful feedback on the ten-item wardrobe eCourse.

Ten-Item Wardrobe Look-Back SS 2017

Hello Daily Connoisseurs,

In today's video, I go through my spring/summer wardrobe to decide what stays and what goes. I hope you will join me as I look-back at my ten-item wardrobe from the past season.

At the end of each season, it's a great idea to assess your wardrobe. If you get in the habit of going through each item and analyzing how it performed for you, you will continue to remain thoughtful about your ten-item wardrobe and not slip into filling your closet with clothes again. Why? Because each item is special and has a purpose. After deciding what stays and what goes, store your clothes away so you can focus on your fall/ winter wardrobe. When you bring out your clothes again next spring, you will be excited to see them!

My tunic in this video is from zulily.

I really appreciate your planning and wardrobe videos. As I approach my 30s, I am more interested in quality clothes in smaller volumes than the "haul" approach I would have favored a few years ago, buying a large volume of cheap clothes. Life Updates: The Details!

Hello Daily Connoisseurs,

I am completely blown away by all of your wonderful and supportive comments on Monday's Life Updates post. I was nervous to post Monday's video as it is a very personal vlog, but everyone was so gracious and supportive. Thank you!

Today, I go into more detail about our summer. Where am I with the ten-item wardrobe? Where did we travel? What revelation did I have about the mountains? How is homeschooling going? I discuss this and so much more in today's video.

This video was shot in the evening after all of the kids went to bed so I apologize for the low lighting and the hum of the dishwasher, but as always, I'm just keeping it real!

Featured in the video:
In the video, I'm drinking out of my Her Ladyship mug . While this mug is not very sophisticated, it sure is fun! I also found this Downton Abbey inspired mug on Amazon that is more affordable. I think these mugs would make great gifts for a girlfriend.

The website I mention for clothing is zulily. Zulily is a great website that has steeply discounted designer clothing.

Judith M. writes: I think our societal shame of talking about money is part of the reason so many people are in debt. We're pressured to live extravagant lifestyles, eat gourmet dinners, travel around the world, all the while not talking about how this is being funded. I've often wondered how some people could afford to do all this, and it wasn't until recently I realized some are going into debt in order to show how "fulfilling" their lives are. I think a finance series about living well within your means would be very helpful! Good luck with all these exciting changes in your life!

Hi Judith, I could not agree more. As a society we don't talk about spending and saving habits, and because of this, many people are drowning in debt. Thank you for your insightful comment!

Before we end today's post, I want to continue to offer my prayers for the people of Texas. We are all thinking of you and hope that you are safe during this very scary time.

I'm Back! Life Updates | Jennifer L. Scott

Hello everyone, how I've missed you! I am back from my summer vacation and am renewed and excited for this new season of The Daily Connoisseur. I hope that you have had a great month and were able to spend quality time with your families.

Before this post begins, I'd like to extend my thoughts and prayers to the people of Texas who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. I hope that you and your families are safe...

In today's video, I'm sharing some major life updates that are happening in our family right now.

The first major update is... we have moved into a new home and have left Los Angeles! This may come as a big surprise to many of you who have followed me, since it seems we only just moved to our last home. We lived there for two years and loved the home, however, my husband and I have been working toward certain financial goals, which you'll hear about in today's video, that necessitated our move.

The second update is that we are spending an extended period of time in Europe this year (mainly England) to visit my husband's side of the family. Because of this, we are homeschooling our children this year. Homeschooling really frees up your time to travel as you do not have to wait for the scheduled school breaks. This has been a decision that we have studied and researched about for an entire year and not one that we have taken lightly. Thank you in advance for your supportive comments in this endeavor! For much more on the subject, be sure to watch today's video.

Summer Chat |Favorites + Taking My Summer Break

Dear Daily Connoisseurs,

The time has come again for me to take my annual summer break. I look forward to this break each year because I am able to devote more of my work time toward writing projects. I also come back refreshed and renewed in September for another great season on The Daily Connoisseur.

Before, I go on my break, however, I wanted to have a chat with you about various things that have been happening this summer. When I return from my break, I will have at least two major life updates for you (maybe more)!

Today, I'm sharing an amazing story about what happened when I got a flat tire, some ten-item wardrobe observations for summer, an album that I have been loving, what I've been watching, the trouble with being a minimalist and so much more! Intrigued? I hope you watch today's video!

Mentioned in the video:

My favorite summer album has been Bach for Breakfast, as recommended in At Home with Madame Chic.

My favorite song on the album is the Sinfonia from Christmas Oratorio. So good!

Congratulations to my YouTube friend, Kathryn Morgan. I love both of her YouTube channels, Kathryn Morgan and Forever Youngs.

MiniCelini a wonderful business that makes girls dresses from Dad's old shirts. Problem is, dad (my husband) is such a minimalist, he doesn't have any old shirts! :)

I also discuss two recent articles on the casual nature of our everyday clothing: Verily Magazine's piece Why I No Longer Wear Leggings In Public, and Tom Ford's interview on leisure wear.

Regarding Monday's Modest Swimwear post, Jaquetta W writes: I switched to swim dresses a few years ago because I was also not comfortable wearing traditional swim wear. It has been the best thing & the styles are a lot more modern than they used to be.

Hi Jaquetta, I was amazed that so many women resonated with Monday's post on swimwear. It seems that the demand for more modest swimwear is very high and as one of the most "liked" comments on the YouTube page, you show the way the pendulum is swinging.

Thank you for joining me for today's video, I will see you on Monday for my final video of the summer before I go on my break. See you then!

Modest Swimwear | What I Wear

Many people have requested a swimwear video. What do I wear to the pool or the beach? Today, I'm showing you what I like to wear. You might be surprised!

I prefer to wear bathing suits that provide more coverage. Many times we think the only option is the two-piece bikini, or the one-piece suit. I am not saying there is anything wrong with those choices, but at this time in my life they are not working for me. I like to cover up more when swimming for many reasons. One of the great benefits of this is you protect your skin from the sun.

I haven't always worn modest swimwear. I had a bit of a light-bulb moment at the Legoland water park (lightbulb moments can truly happen anywhere!) that helped me make my decision and, you know what? I have never looked back.

All of my swimsuits here are over two years old, so I do not have direct links. But all of these swimsuits were purchased from Land's End. They have a great selection of rash guards, swim skirts and shorts.

I hope you enjoy today's video! Also featured:

I'm so happy I found your channel! Your perspective is so refreshing. A few things I really like about your channel: the background music (especially), the videos are not too long, you talk clearly and at a nice pace, your style. Thank you for sharing your ideas and opinions- they have me thinking about my life and how I present myself much differently. I want to start wearing dresses! 😊. I forgot to add that I also love that you promote the fine arts.

Hi Keriannak, thank you for your compliments. Many people do not know how much time goes into blogging and making videos. It takes much effort and time and it's nice to feel appreciated! Thank you to you and to everyone who supports The Daily Connoisseur.

Today, I would love to know... what do you wear for swimwear? What are your thoughts on modern swimwear? Let me know, and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

See you on Thursday for a Day in the Life video!
